Custom Mouthguards at Aardent Dental Centre
Making Your Mouthguard
The first step in making a mouthguard is having an impression taken of your teeth. We use soft putty in a tray to capture the exact shape of your teeth and mouth. Then, a model is made from the impression. Next, we melt the thick protective material over the replica of your mouth, so that it fits snuggly and comfortably. You can even choose your own colour so that your mouthguard matches your team uniform.
Are you or your child an athlete? A large percentage of sporting injuries affect the mouth and teeth. While you might already be wearing protective gear to avoid injury elsewhere in your body, are you doing the same for your smile?
Falls, blows to the face or other athletic-induced trauma can lead to extensive (and expensive) dental needs. Protecting yourself with a custom-fitted athletic mouthguard reduces the risk of injuries like
- Knocked-out teeth
- Broken or chipped enamel
- Concussion
- Facial lacerations
- Internal nerve damage, resulting in tooth death
The guards we make in our practice are designed to fit your unique smile, providing the best protection possible. When a mouthguard is made using a mould of your actual teeth, it provides a better fit than anything you can purchase over the counter. If you take a hit, a custom mouthguard is far less likely to fall out (exposing you to secondary trauma).
Custom Mouthguards Made For You
If you are active in a particularly dangerous or physically demanding sport, we may choose to outsource the manufacturing of your mouthguard. We can let you know which one is best for your needs once we’ve had time to discuss what type of activities you’re involved in (football, kickboxing, gymnastics, etc.).
A professionally fitted mouthguard is one of the best pieces of protective equipment that you can invest in. Contact us today to get yours!
